Tips on Selecting the Right Plumber
Selecting the right plumbing company sounds easy. You just need to find the name of those registered to be legally operating to provide plumbing service, and they are good to go. However, it is not enough to take a look at their license. Having a license means that they are adhering to the standards of what plumbing service is all about. Beyond the license is all about reputation and experience. Below are some tips on what to look out for when you hire a plumbing company.
Reputation and longevity
Longevity pertains to how long the business has been operating in the industry. When they are operating that long, it would mean that there are testimonies made by customers who have already availed their service. You should also look for references from every company that you meet. It will help you talk to past clients as they have something to tell about what they have experienced with the company. Doing this will give you a clear idea whether or not the company is worth hiring for.
Employees vs. Subcontractors
Try to ask whether or not they are going to send out employees to your place that are working for their company or are they subcontracted to deal with plumbing jobs. The standards of the company, including its goals, often fail in trying to present what the company is because of the subcontractors. You should also be wary of the insurance and license of the company as the former may not cover the subcontractors or even the work that they do.
Valid and updated license
It is your responsibility to find how and what plumbing licenses in your neighborhood are. If they possess a license, which every plumbing company should, make sure that they are valid and updated.
Placed in writing
One of the failures that homeowners do is regarding about estimates. Estimates are given to clients or customers that are looking for potential plumbing companies that will handle the job to be given to them. The company will send in their plumbing team which will assess the whole area to see the extent of the damage and work they are going to do. Based on the assessment, it will affect the estimate that they will provide to their client. The client will then see whether the written estimate will work in their favor or that it is cost effective for them.
When it comes to this, make sure that the estimate is given to you personally, never through the phone. Some plumbing companies just provide their estimate through the phone, which is one giveaway that they may be trying to scam you of your money. When this happens to you, avoid the company at all costs and proceed to another one.
There must be a guarantee that all the work the plumbing company does, including parts, must be under warranty. Most plumbing companies do provide warranties that cover up all parts and another service for up to one year. If the plumbing company refuses or tells you that no such thing exists in their policy, look for another company.
It is already said before that references will help you get to the right company. For plumbers that have already been in the industry for many years, they are bound to provide you with references. References must not only about the positive side of the work. It should also include the negative side as well. Some plumbing companies tend only to provide references they know that will only give positive feedback, so avoid such things when it happens to you.
